The Laguna Beach Vibe
Laguna Beach is a city set on a seven-mile stretch of pristine coastline with 30 coves and beaches, boarded by canyons and wooded hills and blessed with flawless weather. With this natural beauty drawing people from all walks of life, the Laguna Beach vibe is influenced by the eclectic population of surfers, millionaires, families, and many world-renowned artists.
Artist Macro Sassone once described Laguna Beach as, “a paradise, an inexhaustible source of inspiration.” Take a look at the surroundings and it’s easy to see why. Whether you enter Laguna Beach via the winding canyon drive or the Pacific Coast Highway, the splendor of the area will affect you before you even hit town. Jutting cliffs overlook pristine beaches of azure water, and even the mish-mash mix of modern architecture and old cabin homes provide inspiration for resident artists.
Citywide art festivals and shows are held annually and by exploring the town you can find over 100 galleries that celebrate both local and international artists. As such, the flashy-rich vibe you may pick up from Newport Beach to the north is diluted by the mix of starving artists that take up residence in the Laguna Beach area.
You needn’t step into a gallery to soak up the arts vibe of Laguna Beach – the boardwalk at Main Beach comes to life in the evenings when artists, musicians and street performers bring free entertainment and culture to the crowds.
It’s not just your eyes that will enjoy the beauty – Laguna Beach restaurants are world-class and provide a wide range of international cuisine, from Thai to Italian through to Belgium and, of course, Californian Noveau. Most Laguna Beach restaurants enjoy spectacular views and many located downtown are set in unique and funky little shacks.
Downtown, known as the “Village”, is a distinct area of cafes, galleries and shops. Wander around by foot and find yourself sipping a latte in a hidden courtyard café or browsing the chic boutique shopping on Forest Avenue. If you’re going to spot any celebrities in Laguna Beach, The Village is where you’ll do it!
Life in Laguna Beach is one of recreation, beauty and culture. Families find themselves settling in the area for the low crime rate, close-knit neighborhoods and quality education. Schools in Laguna Beach are well renowned and Laguna Beach High School was recently brought into the public eye through the hit MTV television series, The O.C. While the T.V. series may portray a rather dramatized version of teen life in Orange Country, it does display some of the beauty of the area and a taste of the Laguna Beach vibe.
Whether you want to soak up the culture with a gallery tour, spend your days learning to surf or skim board with the pros or just soak up the sun, the Laguna Beach vibe is bound to suit you.
